The Future of Jobs: What Do Sustainability, Resilience and AI Have to Do with It?

How will artificial intelligence, sustainability and resilience shape the future of work? How will the roles, skills and values of employees evolve in green and smart societies? And what does “work” mean in an era when the boundaries between human creativity and digital automation are becoming increasingly blurred? These are the central questions of BIN@Novo Mesto 2025, taking place from 10–11 November in Otočec, Slovenia.

Under the title “The Future of Jobs: What Do Sustainability, Resilience and AI Have to Do with It?”, the event will gather experts, researchers and innovators from across Europe to explore which competences will define the future of employment and society.

BIN@ (Business & Innovation Network) is a global platform that for more than a decade has been connecting academia, industry, and innovation communities to co-create concrete solutions for sustainable development. Founded by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), BIN@ has grown into a dynamic international network of partners – this year hosted by the Faculty of Information Studies (FIS) Novo Mesto. Rather than a traditional conference, BIN@ is an open innovation ecosystem where networking meets knowledge-sharing, showcasing best practices and fostering tangible collaborations.

The programme in Novo Mesto will feature four “Action Tanks,” tackling themes such as future skills, digital and green transformation, industrial innovation, and inclusive societies. In the Action Tank: Competences & Skills for Green and Smart Societies,

Ladeja Godina Košir, founder and director of Circular Change, will join as one of the panelists. She will address the skills required for a systemic transition—from linearity to circularity—and the crucial role of transition brokers who bridge knowledge, policy, and practice to accelerate this change.

This year’s event also represents a continuation and deepening of long-standing collaboration between Circular Change and the BIN@ network. Ladeja Godina Košir first joined the community in 2021 at BIN@Porto as a keynote speaker, sharing insights on the circular triangle of Economy – Culture – Change and emphasizing the importance of trust, transparency, and systemic collaboration in rebuilding societies on new foundations. As she noted then:

We do not have all the answers, but we do have each other. Based on trust and transparency, spiced with a systemic approach, NOW we have the unique opportunity to use all available ‘Green Recovery’ resources (financial, human, natural) to co-create a prosperous, circular and sustainable future. We are the people we have been waiting for.
— Ladeja Godina Košir

The BIN@Porto 2021 White Paper – “Building Blocks for the Future”, to which Ladeja contributed alongside international experts such as Violeta Bulc, Beatriz Luz, Leonardo Ortega, Ana Barros, and Terry Huang, captured these reflections and demonstrated the interconnectedness of human existence through the lenses of society, circularity, and well-being.

The upcoming BIN@Novo Mesto 2025 builds on that legacy – renewing partnerships, strengthening valuable connections, and bringing these forward-looking conversations home to Slovenia.

The themes of this year’s BIN@ event strongly resonate with Circular Change’s ongoing mission: connecting businesses, academia, and communities to accelerate circular transitions. Acting as a network facilitator and transition broker, Circular Change promotes dialogue between public and private sectors, helping the circular economy become a driver of resilience and innovation in times of uncertainty.

Ladeja Godina Košir’s contribution at BIN@Novo Mesto 2025 will further strengthen this vision—of a future where sustainability, collaboration, and human potential stand at the heart of a new, regenerative economy.
