The Sustainable Alpine Tourism Initiative (SATI2020) is the world’s first two-day conference aimed at progressing knowledge sharing and collaboration on sustainability in alpine tourism, with a focus on circular economy as a lever. SATI2020 is unique as it convenes senior corporate executives, industry leaders, hotels, resorts, policy makers, and sustainability experts in academia and innovation to create tangible ideas and action plans that tackle key sustainability challenges in alpine tourism.
WORLD LEADING PANELS
Panels feature world leading experts from across the alpine sports, infrastructure and hospitality sectors, each presenting a progressive vision and roadmap for how their organisations and industries can support the circular economy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SATI2020 includes innovative workshops on circular economy strategies, led by researchers and facilitators from Delft University and the University of Cambridge.
SATI2020 will be held over two-days in Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria. This all-year round destination brings together the diversity of the Alps with its stunning glacier, mountains and lake. In this unique natural paradise at the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park, sports enthusiasts, active holidaymakers and families can enjoy nature through a wide range of experiences in both summer and winter. In winter Zell am See-Kaprun is one of Austria’s most popular sports regions, with over 400km of ski slopes. Summer also attracts hikers seeking adventure in the high alpine mountain trails of the region.
Day one of the conference will take place at the Schloss Prielau, which was first established in 1425 by Christian Glaser zu Prielau . In the 16th century the castle was rebuilt and gained the design it keeps today. In 1987 the Porsche family bought the property, and the venue is now managed by the award winning Mayer family. The evening dinner will take place at the Romantik Hotel in Zell am See, which showcases strong sustainability initiatives through its Ecolabel accreditation.
Day two of SATI2020 will be held at the summit of the Schmittenhöhe mountain, in the conference area of the Berghotel Schmitten. Delegates will have the opportunity to take the Schmittenhöhe Bergbahn to the summit, where the venue provides panoramic views of the beautiful mountains and lake.
