Paolo TRICHILO was born in Rome in 1964 and got his Degree in Political Sciences in November 1987 at the LUISS University in Rome, where he was thereafter Assistant of the Italian Judge to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, Carlo Russo, at the Human Rights Chair (1987–1993). In 1986 he studied at the University of Iowa, Political Sciences Department, through the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP). Lieutenant in the “Carabinieri” Corps (1989-1990), he entered the diplomatic career in February 1990.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he served in the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe Unit, also as a member of various CSCE Special Diplomatic Delegations (Vienna, La Valletta, Moscow, Geneva, Helsinki), until he was appointed Consul in Mulhouse in November 1993. He then was the Economic and Commercial Counsellor in the Ankara Embassy starting from January 1998. Upon his return to Rome, he was in succession the Deputy to the International Antiterrorism Coordinator, member of the Iraq Task Force Iraq and of the Special Diplomatic Delegation in Iraq and Deputy Head of the Crisis Unit. Political Counsellor (2004-06) and Deputy Chief of Mission in New Delhi (2006-2008), he was posted in Paris as First Counsellor (2008) and Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Delegation to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) (2009-2012). Diplomatic Counsellor to the Minister for Labour and Social Policies from October 2012 until December 2015, he is the Italian Ambassador to Slovenia from the 11th of January 2016. Minister Plenipotentiary since January 2012, he is Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, 2006.
