The Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee organised a Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference in Brussels on 9-10 March 2017. One year after the adoption of the Circular Economy Package, the Commission presented to businesses, civil society, stakeholders and local authorities the progress made so far and debated on future opportunities. The Commission was represented by First Vice-President Timmermans, who opened the conference, Vice-President Katainen, who looked at the financial opportunities of the circular economy and Commissioner Vella, who looked at what had been implemented one year on. The Commission has delivered more than half of the measures presented in its Action Plan and is counting on the support of the citizens, stakeholders, the European Parliament and the Council to take this further towards a sustainable and profitable economy. The conference culminated with the launch of the process of establishing the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform.
One of the speakers was also Ladeja Godina Košir, executive director and initiator of Circular Change.
